  2. I was somewhat "off-grid" when all this happened so don't know much about what actually happened. I would like to know how the guy was caught - was it "red handed" to use the old fashioned term, i.e. in the act of or immediately after the crime?

  4. I doubt very much they would have used blue and white hats, given that M&S were founded by a Jewish economic migrant from eastern Europe. My father had little time or love for the Jews due to the way they treated British forces (primarily RAF) in the middle east during WW2. Dad always reckoned the got shot at by them more times than by the Germans.

  7. An old workmate did his engineering apprenticeship in a company that employed a huge percentage of women. Some of the things they got up to were bordering on outrageous, particularly as I always suspected he might have been gay.

  8.  @MS-sb9ov  At the time I had access to a fairly limited circulation publication aimed at military suppliers. It was not a British magazine and I suspect it was probably produced in Europe in various languages from many of the articles. From what it was saying, the invasion came as no surprise to many people in the know due to what was happening in Argentina. Suitable preemptive action or better still proper diplomatic action could well have saved many lives on both sides and the British tax payer many millions of pounds. There is even an anecdote from a Falklander at the airport who was asked some time previously by an Argentinian "businessman" if a loaded Hurcules could there land safely. The effort our forces put in was titanic even though some of the leadership could have done a little better had they listened to people a little lower down the ladder.

  14. I find it hilarious that people claim that it is so hard to drive at twenty in a modern car, it just goes to show how many bad drivers there are as it isn't any harder than driving at 30 or 40. You are only talking about urban areas only for a start. As for adding to journey times across urban areas, just work out your average speed for a couple of journeys.

  28. The BBC coverage I have seen seems pretty balanced to me and is very clearly not financed by the Global elite who are on one side! The BBC sympathises with the poor ordinary people of both sides who are suffering terribly yet the people running both sides are immune to the horrors.

If someone suffers due to it being hot they are likely to want to sue the met office for not warning them, same as any other more extreme weather. This is exactly the same thing that has ruined discipline in our schools because parents didn't like it.

Much as I loathe Costa and all the other rip-off trendy coffee shops and have contempt for the snobs and posers who frequent them, I have 3 thoughts about this rubbish cartoon character (that looks like it was drawn by a 7 year old): 1. The people complaining about it are no better than the wokes who seem to enjoy being offended. 2. The people reading something into the cartoon are like the pretentious idiots who see the "meaning" in modern art that looks like it was drawn by a 7 year old (before you say anything, I have 2 very expensive original modern art paintings but they are way above the rubbish I am talking about). 3. The whole "scandal" is actually the work of a rival company out to discredit Costa.

  33.  @guleiro  The aging population thing is only going to be temporary as most of the slightly younger generations will not be living as long (for many reasons) and therefore is a bit of a red herring. The other thing the supporters of the ever growing population forget is that it now only takes a couple of men to make a new car or washing machine etc when you used to employ dozens. The same applies to farming. In these times an ever growing population means more unemployment and the tax burden that comes with it. This is what big business likes (not the tax bit as they avoid that) but high unemployment means lower wages and more profit.

  34.  @shanepatrick641  Not seen many bare shelves, other than due to false claims in order to put up prices. As for higher prices, pop over to France if you want to see high prices. I can buy good strong cheese at around £6 to £8 a kilo in the UK but in France you rarely see decent cheese at less than 20 euro a kilo and not uncommonly 35 plus! Clothes too are generally way more expensive.

  36.  @oneoflokis  For many years the government actively encouraged the poor to breed to the point where taxpayers were subsidising chavs with 6 or 7 brats so the parents could buy more ciggies and booze and have a bigger house and car. They then wondered why the unemployment rate went up.

  37.  @NLJeffEU  I have been in France for 2 months and just returned to the UK and yes, you might be able to buy very ordinary cheese for that price, the bland stuff from supermarkets in the UK that you pay £3 or £4 for here, but to get anything with a decent strong taste to compare with mature Cheddar you need to pay a good bit more where we have been.

  39.  @oneoflokis  I think many people voted leave, not because of patriotism or whatever you might call it but because of the way the EU was starting to dictate how we had to live our lives (but not applicable to many other countries), how many people were making huge sums of money from our membership for doing very little for our country, how it was getting way too big (for it's boots), the huge waste of money the EU parliament was (our own one already costs way more than it should! ) - the list goes on. There is very little need for all the downsides we seem to be suffering but people seem to be taking advantage of made up situations.

It is much like the classic "in all honesty" so loved by people about to tell you a whopper. The problem with the veto was due to the people given the power to use it, they were the ones who let us down.

  41. In the city where I live a lot of roads have a 20 limit because it really is not sensible to do any more because many of the roads were not made with mass car ownership in mind. Mind you, a lot of drivers still manage to drive recklessly and have unbelievable accidents!

  43.  @PazLeBon  I have seen several crashes where cars have flipped over on roads with a 20 or 30 limit and even one where a woman drove straight on at a "T" junction and into the front of a house on the opposite side of the road! How on earth can you do that, driving at a sensible speed?

  44.  @huwwiliams8426  The problem with what you are suggesting is that it takes generations to work- yes, it is the best way in the long term but you need to start with very young kids and teach them right from wrong very early but sadly that doesn't seem to have been happening for a good few years. The problem at the moment is the lack of consequences for bad behaviour, whether it is from a 5 year old at school or a teenager like these ferals. If they new something bad might happen to them, most people would think twice about how they behaved. Too many kids these days don't get the education they should have because things have been made too easy for them. There seems to be no competition to do better or true reward for good performance or behaviour. I know full well we don't have hard labour in the UK but it would certainly reduce the prison population and allow offenders to give something back to society which in its own right world give them some worth. As for my upbringing, it was a typical working class (probably would be considered abject poverty these days) and I learnt right from wrong at an early age. I didn't have a fancy education, but did an engineering apprenticeship which stood me in a great position when it came to getting a really good job. Never been unemployed and never had a problem changing companies for better pay. Now retired early and currently holidaying in France on my yacht!

  45.  @huwwiliams8426  A lot of what you say about Thatcher is totally true and personally I believe she is responsible for many of the problems in this country. However, I cannot agree with your argument regarding why kids do this type of crime. When I was young kids learnt about consequences at an early age - if you did something stupid on one of the things down the local recreation ground you ended up with grazed knees and elbows or if you were lucky enough to have a bike the same applied. Nowadays these playgrounds are far too safe for fear that someone will sue the council if their kid cuts his knee. In parts of Germany they are experimenting with old school playgrounds where kids could get hurt if they are silly and early indications are that it is making those kids much more responsible.

  47.  @huwwiliams8426  Regarding your comment about adrenaline sports, that really is not relevant to the situation these kids are in. Many kids are too sheltered from minor dangers and risk from an early age and therefore don't appreciate the possible consequences of say joy riding. When they get hurt trying to flee the police their parents are up in arms when they should feel ashamed.
