The French railway system seems to be very efficient and has some of the fastest "real" trains on regular services. I have no idea how it is run or who owns it but it seems to be a good model.

@cwm6203 I am only going by what people who have used it have said about it. My only experience has been the Paris metro ( not quite as organised as the London underground or the Montreal metro, I have to say) and a quaint little local train, more like a tram that was jammed full when I went on it. I would like to know what you feel makes it efficient or not (when compared to the UK network).

Which Watford crash? There was one of the biggest ever just north of Watford, near where I lived.

@cwm6203 It all depends on how you assess efficiency. To an account, anything that does not make a big, easy profit is not efficient. However, to the user it may well be. All transport systems can be made more efficient but the will to do so has to come from somewhere.
