@marksapollo The internet is fine but not necessarily always that safe for kids. Look how the looting in Oxford Street was organised for a good example, let alone the poor lad who got ambushed and knifed. It would be fine if the kids stuck to basic phones although quoting crime figures as a reason for them is not meaningful. We had our grandchildren for 4 weeks over in France earlier this year and one of the first things they noticed was less people glued to their phones and therefore much more polite and aware of what was happening around them. Both had their iPhones but often there was no reception or wifi so they were not much use. When one of them managed to break the special charger lead (not the normal USB type) they very soon didn't have working phones. The change to them was amazing! They suddenly started to do normal childhood things and even join in with more grown up stuff. Grand daughter discovered she had a gift for fishing and provided several free meals.

Kids taking mobile phones to school are just another example of the entitled generation. There is absolutely no need for them to have a phone at school and going by my grandkids, it all seems to be about who has the newest and best and endlessly watching silly American videos on tik tok etc.

@VictheSecret It might be irrelevant to the discussion about the legality but it is relevant to the cause of the issue. As for mobiles being "useful " for kids, how come generations managed without them. There is a huge difference between "useful " and necessary.

@marksapollo The problem is not so much them having phones but the latest generation of smartphones expose them to a lot of things that are not good. And as for knife crime, how on earth does that come into a conversation about phones (other than they were crucial to the organization of the stabbing of that lad in the park by fellow students).
