That almost sounds like you are using common sense, no one is entitled to do that these days.

I believe more emphasis should be placed on the use of something as a weapon and he consequences of that use than possession of the item. To me if you use something as a weapon that has a realistic likelihood of causing death then you should be charged with murder or attempted murder. I think the Yanks call it assault with a deadly weapon. A length of small diameter pipe COULD be used as a blowpipe to deliver a deadly dart but it could just be what you have in your van.

This video is worth a view and covers some scary law changes that are proposed.

Of course you could always try to run or drive away and claim the officer was being nasty to you?

Hand guns in waist bands or inside pockets?

@shookoneldn300 It is not easy to make up crimes to convict the truly innocent. Yes, you might be accused of a crime but be innocent of it but that is what courts decide. Without doubt some cops overstep the mark but in90+% of cases it is much safer to comply and seek redress later and there are plenty of solicitors who would be willing to help you.

@shookoneldn300 When you dig deeper into the story of people who hate the police you often find that they are not the loving innocent people they would like you to think they are. I have been stopped by the police very few times in my life despite nearly always having driven old bangers. Every time there was a good reason for it, almost down to the time that I virtually baited them by driving onto a private road where I had very good reason to be. I was very polite to them and pointed out that the road was private and normal driving rules don't apply legally.

@shookoneldn300 The officers had good grounds to search if there was a genuine smell of cannabis and if the lads were totally innocent and cooperated there would be no problem. Round here the cops must have no sense of smell as it is everywhere and they don't seem to do much about it. I suspect many are actually afraid of being accused of bias and getting into trouble.

One question, what would an officer stand to gain if he carried out a search knowing it would find nothing? Unless they know that next time it might be too late to do the search for whatever reason. Just think if it had been done to the guy in Manchester?
