@StewartWalker-hy1eo You obviously never saw the photos I did in a limited / restricted circulation magazine article that I got access to after the conflict. It contained some very revealing facts that did not paint our glorious leader at the time in good light! It was not some underground subversive publication but a serious "industry" publication in English but not published in the UK as far as I could tell.

Some of those were USAF aircraft repainted in our colours.

@StewartWalker-hy1eo They were not AV8Bs but standard Harriers destined for the US. You could clearly see the over painted markings in the photos.

@StewartWalker-hy1eo The publication was called something like Military Technology and it was basically a trade magazine for the military. It had some very good technical articles in it as well as reviews on the latest weapons. The article about the Falklands war was very interesting in many ways regarding what it revealed about the true situation prior to it kicking off. Turns out the invasion was not unexpected in many military circles around the world! I am guessing the Harriers were pre AV8B varieties due for shipment to the US.

@StewartWalker-hy1eo Your last sentence shows a lot about your way of thinking.

Have you ever noticed how people say "Concord" as if it were one aircraft rather than the Concord which would be correct. That to me indicates just how iconic they were as I know of no other man made object where a number were produced but they are always spoken of as the singular.

@percyprune7548 Not only the politicians but accountants in the civil service who only think of cost and not value.

@almac2598 The magazine was called Military Technology to the best of my recollection. It was not intended for "ordinary folk" to read but a close acquaintance and I managed to "intercept " it while it was circulating among certain areas where we worked. We were both very interested in weapon technology and some of the advances being made or considered at the time. In those days it contained lovely adverts for anti personnel land mines and cluster bombs etc.

@almac2598 I am just saying what I saw in the article, clearly American markings that had been over painted. Unless you have verifiable proof to the contrary?
3
@muskiet8687 I admit to getting the USAF bit wrong but you could clearly see American markings on the wings rather than RAF.

@almac2598 If God had intended the army to fly, the sky would be a dirty brown colour as they say. As for the Navy, I looked after the Gem engines on the Lynx (also army ones) for several years and saw the horrors of neglect and mistreatment regularly.

@StewartWalker-hy1eo Sorry, I guess I got the USAF bit wrong as I have little knowledge of how the American military is organised. To me planes are for the Airforce not for squaddies or skates.

My father was working on a US airbase just post war when the RAF brought one in for some work. It was carrying one of the big ones. When loaded onto the bomb trolley it sank in the tarmac! The Yanks would not believe it could take off from their runway (Bovingdon inHerts). It did, no problem!
1
@Thurgosh_OG I know, I forgot that the Yanks let their "Missguided Children" fly planes as well as their airforce.

@stephenchappell7512 Maybe I believe what I see with my own eyes and hear from those who have no axe to grind? The conflict had certainly been anticipated in some quarters and was very much about politics.

@gillie-monger3394 I just googled Military Technology magazine and sure as anything it still seems to be going. I am sure with little more digging I could find an archive with issues from the time I used to get to see it. It is entirely up to you whether or not you choose to believe what I am relating but having read the articles and seen the photos I am happy that I am being honest and not some conspiracy theorist. I saw the quote the other day that being branded a conspiracy theorist should be considered a badge of honour these days so it is a win-win for me.

@Nom-n9z Were you even born at the time of the conflict or were you working in a defence related industry with (unofficial) access to defence industry publications from outside of the UK but with no connections to either side? Probably not I would suggest and I guess you think Fujitsu were innocent and the Horizon system faultless too.
1
@Nom-n9z I can assure you I think very little of you!
