Perhaps we should kick out all the US based companies, many of whom who do not pay the taxes they should in the UK?

The EU is no real different from the US, just a group of small states joined together.

@martin101harris5 Not sure what you are on about there, but my experience of the food in the US is that 90% plus is just volume without taste. We had to eat in This or Chinese or French places out there to get nice food.

@TheAlb100 Sadly, we have all fallen foul of the "you really must have XXX" advertising. Burgers were a novelty to start with, but the leathery things they sell in MacD's now are awful and as for the stupidly over priced coffees that seem to be the fashion, heaven knows why people pay that much for something that costs that little to make yourself.

I find it quite funny the Trump (probably not aware of the English connotations of the word) rants about "Making America great again" like it really ever was great for a good proportion of their population.

@Lundershot1 The reason you don't see English food outlets out there is probably because they sell food and the Yanks are not used to that - LOL.

@gartgreenside3657 I gather some Mercs are US made and from one of my neighbours experience, the quality is way lower than it should have been.

@loot6 If you ask the Chinese to make products to a quality and not to a price then you get pretty good products. The trouble is, no one wants to pay the true cost.
1
@cuuurlyfries5246 What, you actually had food in America with taste? (unless you are talking about stuff laced with flavourings & chilli).
1
@simoncardie9371 You some it up well when you say "no more expensive" - that is the whole point, quality is not always linked to the price charged for the final product.
1
@simoncardie9371 Horse meat was being sold a beef (you just could not pass it for chicken, but then as a vegan / veggie you probably would not understand that. From talking to people who have knowingly eaten horse meat in France, it is actually quite good. I might even pluck up courage to have some when next over in France.

@loot6 That is not the impression I have got from talking with people who have dealt with Chinese companies to get things made, nor from my niece who worked out there for around 10 years.

@rizmark5522 I have only ever owned two Fords in the UK - both utterly terrible. I have owned many Citroens and am a total convert. Cheap to buy, cheap to run and wonderfully reliable, despite the neglect and abuse I give them.

@loot6 A heard of sheep may have one impression of sheep dogs, but that does not make that impression correct.
1
@loot6 I never realised that people got paid to comment on here - seems very odd to me as who would be paying them and how (might be a nice little earner?).
1
@loot6 I guess it must be like when there is an article bigging up the US - as soon as anyone with half an ounce of common sense says anything negative about it, the hoards of Yanks crawl out from under their stones (or their cousins' bed covers etc).

Calling much of what they serve in the US "Food" is bad enough!

@kid--presentable How come, most of the "new Americans" (i.e. not 1st nations) are just the dross of Europe - economic migrants, people who were hated here for one reason or another or just criminals sent there as a punishment. Even the Vikings decided they did not want the place when they first found it.

In your dreams, sadly. I have even seen Starbucks in small towns in Eire.
1
@craigrankin5321 Still rubbish though and one wonders just how much tax MacD's pay in the UK?
1
@shane846head What about the nail bars, Turkish barbers and American candy stores commonly known as money laundries.
1
@voice_of_reason5604 I am a bit of a Francophile, mainly because of my experience with ordinary French people but with some goods it is because they are subsidised by their government which means I get a good reliable car at a very cheap price when compared to the nearest equivalent from elsewhere.

@kennethcartwright8561 Maybe we should just ensure that they pay a right and proper amount of taxes. If this cannot be done, how about putting a tax levy on the foreign owned companies that do not make a fair contribution to our country. Regarding possible job losses, if these businesses were that viable, surely sequestering the assets and keeping the people in work would be viable? As for the USAF, how many businesses truly rely on them when you compare with what our own force. spend on US products. As for me having a brain, well, probably a better equipped and more functional on the Nellie the elephants famous call as "off she went to the jungle". Tit for tat actions between countries show just how pathetic our leaders are.
