@TexanIndependence It is a very complicated issue. My own country Britain sits under an Imperial crown and has done so in peace for hundreds of years..but this stability comes from splitting the houses of power between unelected Lords and elected officials..from what I hear of Gabon the elections have been a total disaster for the last three terms and the leader Bongo has had a tenuous grip on power resulting in many deaths and requiring support from the French to shore up his regime..
But this is NOT revolution! This is coup! He was not ousted by crowds of angry protestors, he was ousted by the military sneaking in the back door, throwing the election results in the bin and declaring martial law behind closed borders! vox populi is in the BIN. Now 35% hold power with guns..at least they switched the internet back on..
We shall see. Perhaps this is a Godsend, and the military will step down after re instituting democracy..but power does not work that way does it? The fact they threw the republic's laws and codes into the bin along with the election results sends a chill right up my spine.
Also the calls of 'down with the west' and 'go russia' resonate throughout this coup. I smell the rubles in the air, and what is good for them is bad for us and bad for Gabon.
Ask Donbass what 'Russian involvement' in elections brings. Forced removal of passports, torture, intimidation, removal of free press, conscription into the armed forces, theft of children and forced relocation of children, murder extortion corruption, the arrest and detention of the lawful police forced and hate speech disguised as vox populi to name but a few.
