I have zero sympathy for those business owners. If you cant pay a decent wage you shouldn't be operating. Right now you are surviving off low wage benefits subsidised migrants so in effect we aren't getting cheaper produce as we are paying taxes towards benefits and housing. The sooner they go out of business the better.

But they wont work in in their own country for the wages being paid there!!! Talk about double standards.

All that most people want in life is a secure job that pays enough to buy a property, a car, holiday each year and pay the bills with something left over for a rainy day. These politicians have not even been able to sort out the BASICS for most most people and haven't even collected the proper taxes from the highest earners. On top of this they then allow reckless mass immigration to keep wages low and fuel house prices whilst ignoring an enormous debt bubble and house price inflation that is going to screw over our children and wonder why we are so disillusioned!!!

Because if it wasn't for Labour being so bad we wouldn't be having this election or Brexit imo. This is why people will be voting Tory because they are appearing to be listening to immigration concerns and overall have a more professional cabinet. Labour need to get their act together, why do you think they are having to offer so many bribes? Because they have lost their core voters by betraying them over so many things including immigration.

Because when services and infrastructure are being cut to the bone, the ast thing you need is more people coming here to use those services and infrastructure, especially the low paid ones that rely on tax credits and housing benefits? Typical Remoaner.

Thats because the whole political system is fecked, socialism is now for the rich and corporations and the left wing have let so many working people down they have had to change their voting tactics to get what they want. In other words to get the referendum people had to vote Tory and in order to uphold then vote people have had to continue voting tory as Labour are opposed to it and want mass immigration to continue. However a lot of those Tory voters will be moving over to Ukip if they are betrayed.

Labour are crazy, ompletely unelectable now.

They have learned nothing. The biggest problem in this country for working people is the obscene cost of housing and all 3 parties have ignored it and continue to ignore it by deliberately not building anywhere near enough, propping up the market and allowing BTL speculation whilst allowing foreign investors to invest and launder money in London property.

Where do I start? Mass immigration 2004, PFI, 10p tax fiasco, refusing an EU ref, using the racist card instead of acknowledging the immigration concerns, Not building sufficient housing during 13yrs followed by the banking crisis that they were forewarned of. Nothing in your comment changes my opinion of the loony left, typical narrow minded views thinking money grows on trees. Enjoy another Tory victory.

The point is that employers don't have to increase workers pay when we have wide open borders without any skills checks or caps which effectively means an unlimited supply of low skilled labour many of which come from countries paying far, far less and willing to work for the minimum wage and accept long hours and poor working conditions. I've never seen a liberal admit that immigration levels are too high, way higher than the Labour party predicted and this has had a negative impact on wages, job availability, job conditions, housing, schools, NHS waiting lists or access to a GP and public services. Until liberals get real and accept that not all immigration is beneficial and that uncontrolled immigration does indeed cause genuine concerns in communities and puts strain on the above mentioned then I cannot take anything they say seriously. It's no good complaining that 8 quid an hour is not enough to live on when your own actions and beliefs are helping create these poverty wages. We want controlled borders and a cap on immigration, why can't liberals accept that this is good practise and something we should be implementing?

Just a final point, the fact that Owen thinks that 8 quid an hour is a poverty wage highlights exactly how out of touch he is. This is actually a decent rate of pay in the world of the low skilled working class for this type of job. Of course you can't live off it which is exactly why a lot of these type of jobs are taken by migrants as they tend to have lower overheads, sharing rooms, no mortgage or maintenance costs etc. Why do you think that Brits are so miffed off with so many people coming here willing to work for so little as this is what is helping to keep wages down? Open your eyes, just because you probably earn a very good living for doing a job you love doesn't mean everyone else is doing well, its about controlling levels and ensuring that people aren't being undercut, you should know this and be supporting the working class instead of mocking them as you would not be so smug having to survive off a typical low paid job, I'd guess you wouldn't last a week before running back to your parents for a bailout and at the very least you should know what a typical low skilled wage is before attacking Tim.

Why has it taken the Guardian this long to investigate why people voted out? It's not just the North that feels like this either, people in jobs are feeling completely helpless too as there has been a decade of austerity on top of massive house price inflation and mass immigration whilst wages have stagnated, we are constantly told that all migrants are net contributers which is a lie otherwise we would have plenty of money flooding in for services and infrastructure. Calling people racists isn't helpful, controlling immigration levels is the responsible thing to do but the left won't admit it.
1
You still don't get it do you? Labour want to reverse brexit and flood us out with illegal immigrants to increase their vote share, we aren't falling for their trap.
