It will only get more competitive once robots take over and we have highly skilled mass immigration or their offspring start competing in the jobs market. I don't know why they are still here when they could go abroad and use their FOM to get a job and get on the housing ladder elsewhere without a lifetime of debt and no life. What I didn't bargain for was just how worse things would become under Blair. Things were nowhere near this bad when the Tories were in before Labours 97 win and that was after years of Thatcher ruling the roost.I read a cross section of tabloids and the Guardian and Indy are nothing to be proud of believe me they talk some crap. This why Labour can no longer be trusted as they will reverse Brexit and allow mass immigration to get completely out of control. Labour party introduced PFI into the health service. Labours mass immigration has led to stagnant wages and undercutting. The Benefits system is not functioning as an effective safety net for working people. There are too many penalties and hurdles and tax contributions aren't being factored, everyone is treated the same regardless of contributions which is unfair. Also tax credits are propping up poor wages which is wrong. Labour created a dependency on tax credits instead of wage rises. No point in building council houses unless immigration is drastically reduced otherwise the same problems prevail. Regulating rentals I agree with, buy to let and help to buy a complete failure. Labour were in Government and happy to relax banking regulation whilst economy was booming and failed to see the problems ahead. Prevention was the best cure. NHS is struggling because there are too many users and PFI debts. No point in throwing money at it unless we have control measures on immigration in place.

Labour should have encouraged wage rises instead of tax credit dependency during the last boom early 2000s. However a living wage although good on paper is going to put a lot of small companies out of business due to their overheads and economic conditions. Also it would encourage even more immigration and inflation. If the Tories dont address immigration then they will be in the same position as Labour next election. It will have to be controlled with British workers given protection. I expect to be entitled to the top tier benefits package should I need it based on my contributions. I dont think its right that I have been paying in for years and years and treated the same as a lazy workshy or someone that has just come over here and paid very little if anything. Benefits shouldn't be paid to any immigrant for at least 5 years and after significant contributions. Overseas aid should be halved and frozen for a few years until our services are back to normal. Most people in public sector do a good job overall but forget that its not just them that hasn't had a payrise. Their wages rose way above private employees for years and need controlling.

What should have been happening is less intervention as you say and not allowing mass immigration to undercut wages whilst getting people into jobs to meet their skillset instead of devaluing peoples skills. Tens if not hundreds of thousands of employers would not be in business if they had to pay a living wage. The real issue is business rates and rents and EU regulation making them uncompetitive and large corps getting away with tax evasion and gaining commercial advantage whilst abusing zero hrs contracts. Labour policy is mass immigration continuing which will destroy this country in the long term as we cannot sustain the numbers or infrastructure. Also Labour locked the NHS into PFI which meant paying billions more for hospitals and services, they built less housing in 13 years than any ONE year under Thatcher, allowed zero hour contracts, introduced tax credits which has led to part time, non jobs paying minimum wage, also Brown sold off the gold reserves at rock bottom, scrapped the 10% tax band and drove the economy into the wall through deregulation of banking sector and out of control housing market. All of this has made life far more difficult for anyone not wealthy and Brexit was the chance to express dissatisfaction with the system and the way the EU operates. I don't support the Tories as they have created a mess of brexit BUT at least they gave us the referendum, unlike Labour which refused!!!

  198. Freedom of movement is a ridiculous idea anyway especially where some member countries are only paying a few euros per hour for an an adult wage. No wonder they want to come here, not that the UK pays a great wage for low skilled workers when factoring the cost of living but its a way for migrant to send money back home that goes a lot further than here but doesn't really help UK workers competing for jobs or trying to find housing or get access to public services etc. The Eu needs to pull its finger out and increase the standard of living in other member countries so that they dont have to leave their own countries to come here to do menial tasks and displace UK workers, especially people that are overqualified.

Those that are still in the same job will find it far easier getting a mortgage as they will be borrowing far less and those that have to find another job will only have to find a job that pays less than their current job as the multiples that they need to borrow will be less. So interest rates might have to rise, but thats inevitable anyway as they cant go any lower and this will ensure that house prices have to correct.

How would you remoaners feel if we had decided to remain and then there was a campaign to overturn that decision for the next 3 yrs and us leavers decided that it was democratic to have another referendum as 'opinion had changed'. Would you feel democracy had been served then? You have no idea what remain will look like in a decades time and my guess is that it will be completely different to what being in the EU looks like today and probably for the worse. There should be suitable opportunities in their own country, too many over qualified and under qualified people coming here to do low grade jobs and too many low paid workers coming here driving down wages and accepting lower working conditions which does affect local people trying to seek work. Also 70% of these EU workers earn low to average wages that rely on benefits and housing support. Why should the taxpayer pay for this and have to share infrastructure, schools, NHS and public services with all these migrants, many of whom haven't paid a lot in taxes if any compared to someone paying for decades? Whats in it for local people? Not everyone has had a high level of education in order to get a high grade job or they may be approaching or in retirement and need an income topup, some locals want a basic job and basic income and not keep getting overlooked because of a constant stream of migrants getting them.
