Well what we do know is that Earth already has a breakaway society that is perhaps 1000s of years ahead of what we know as they have been backwards engineering and suppressing alien and human tech and patents for so long now. Quite how far it all goes back we don't know but there is definitely another human or alien race we don't know about that is far more sophisticated than we can imagine.
