  1. The homeless people in CT have to go through programs that help them get back their ID. There are many who don't want to get sober and go into a program, and still on the street. It's a long, long process. I feel really bad for them. A lot of ID is tied to an "address". If you don't have an address, you can't get it. It took 5 months of running around to get information for the Vital Statistics (birth certificate), and social security card. It finally happened because he had been to a doctor, he had been baptized, he had worked for a place that recognized him and gave him proof of a social security number. Homeless are drifters, and often have NO access to important papers from their past. What do you do then? They can't even get a P.O. Box to receive mail, and the State won't take a P.O. Box as a place of residence. It could be so much easier, but it isn't. There is no one to turn to, and no one to help.

  2. The sad thing is that children in custody and foster care of the State of **, and considered adults at age 18, and are on their own. They have no place to go. I have seen notices on Craigslist and other more questionable places where you can put "room wanted, or apt wanted" ads. You can tell the ads are by young people who have aged out of the system, and are desperate, and "will do anything" for a roof over their head. That statement was made by someone in their room wanted ad. It's not unfamiliar.
