  1. the usa public has been taught to sanctify the political process, to cover the practical reality of their impotence in public affairs. the rulers are corrupt. the ruled are idiotic. that is a failed state. don't laugh at colbert, he may say, may feel, that he is weeping for the character of the person who won the whitehouse, but his tears spring from the hopeless decadence of his nation, top to bottom, side to side. there is no saving of the usa, and that is worth weeping for.
