  1. you can't expect politicians [or stand-up comics ] to lead a revolution. they are doing very nicely from 'things as they are.' only revolution can turn around the ship of state. doesn't have to be violent, if the politicians agree to put themselves out of power, but they seldom do. the real problem is, less than half of usa knows what democracy is, and much less than that will fight for it. so yer screwed. the situation is not entirely hopeless, other nations have pulled out worse conditions, prc comes to mind, but usa hasn't got a mao ci dong. and marxism is a bit obsolete, anyway. so what to: if you have a modern profession, emigrate. but you probably are doing fine where you are. maybe worried about the kids? if you don't? immigrate. find a scrap of land and raise chickens and vege. go on the barter economy, and learn to shoot, with bow and sling shot. can't leave the city? deal drugs.
