  1. usa will encourage anyone to fight, and sell them guns to do it. they don't get too involved in ukraine, because putin scares them. taiwan is a bigger prize, and prc has no recent track record in military prowess. the downside of civilization, quite unlike usa. so usa politicians 'visit,' making their bones as the mafia put it, raising election funds thereby, and perhaps a few votes as well. fortunately for humanity, xi jinping has a plan for taiwan which includes not trashing the place. it is, after all, part of china, and a valuable one. he thinks 'not shooting' will win the war. and he is ceo of a society of bureaucrats capable of long term plans. quite unlike usa. i recently indulged in a metaphor on the situation, usa is a dangerous fighting bull, xjp the matador. the bull will die, the matador probably not. but there will be a show of horn-dodging and bandillerros first, hold yer breath!
