  1. usans are continually talking about 'our democracy.' they think the have democracy, in spite of the fact that they don't. it comes from being lied to continually when young. but this does not inspire pity, because anyone can see through the lie, it is more obvious than santa claus. continuing to believe stems from some mixture of shame and fear. result: talk is endless, and fruitless. it's a national psychosis.
