  1. prof. w. is always available, i think he must be supporting a young and greedy mistress. alternatively, if his pension is enough, he neglected to acquire a satisfying hobby. his field is economics, but usa's problem is political- it's not a democracy and the ruling elite are unwilling to adjust their demands to the declining fortune of the state. he can tell you where the pain is, but has nothing to say about how to fix it. revolution is not in his vocabulary. never a word is heard about the possibility that the decay of the economy is built in to the law of the nation, from anyone. because that would lead to the observation that change is too hard, and we're screwed. but societies often develop a dysfunctional character and are unable to change because the people on top are content to enjoy their position. in simplest terms, a society with citizen initiative [aka 'democracy'] can act to create better conditions for the non-elite. but there are no democracies, except the swiss. and that's why the austro-hungarian empire disappeared, and so will the usa.
