'our democratic institutions?' when you ask a question like that, you make the problem worse. the problem is, usa is not, never was, a democracy. you don't have, never had, democratic institutions. the problem deeper still, is profound ignorance and cynical misinformation. you can't have democracy, if you are dumber than a rock, as evil as a politician, and too busy to fix either one.
