  1. should be no surprise to discover usa is not a moral examplar. it was born to preserve slavery, prospered through ethnic cleansing and territorial aggrandisement. but giving voting 'rights' to convicts won't help much. voting doesn't do much good, if you can only vote for people. democracy uses voting to settle substantive matters through referendum, with initiative to over-ride bureaucrats who forget they are working for the electorate. but politicians never mention that- why should they tell you to make them obsolete?
