well, usa insisted taiwan was part of china, for many years. because usa owned the guomindang government of taiwan, and would have owned china if their stooge could get back in control of china.
the actual government of china agrees that taiwan is part of china, just as usa insisted - it's just the prc is not going to be a stooge of usa. there is no intention to invade taiwan, it is unnecessary. unless usa uses it as a base to threaten prc, as it has done, in the recent past. has everyone forgotten these inconvenient facts?
the president of philippines announces his intention to follow usa direction in dealing with prc. we can safely imagine that some combination of threats and bribes has re-shaped his opinion. pity is appropriate, philippines and its president are poor, and easily threatened and /or bribed. they may be on the wrong side of history, but we will have to wait a bit. in the meantime:
take notice that usa has no tools but bribes and threats. prc relies on trade and mutual respect. the only aggressive actor on the world stage is usa, it is not china.
