hitler wanted ukraine, and everything in between . there were slavs on it, they had to go. he had some notion of sov capabilities and knew that size and numbers meant 'now or never.' so he threw the dice. it wasn't stupid, although maybe it was desperation.things went pretty well, up to the sight of moscow. at this point, reality broke in- there was just too many of them.
