very good summary. the lack of artillery tractors not likely to be significant, germans were horse-drawn still. this war was insane. in spite of superior training and adequate material, and gross incompetence of red army, from high to low, the wehrmacht ran out of puff in front of moscow. there were not enough of them, and they weren't properly dressed. perhaps the blame could be hung on mussolini - he needed to be helped out of the balkans and that time should have been free for an earlier start for barbarossa. if jump-off time was july, might have made all the difference. but it was insane. chance of success never very good, cost of failure immense. it doesn't pay a nation to let one crazy man run it.
