  2. there are two goals in the management of a nation: one is, to provide a decent living for all its members. the other is, to extract the maximum wealth for each member of an elite group. the second goal is almost universal, but some nations strive towards the first in some degree- scandinavia most notable. republicans chase the first goal, while disguising their greed by saying anyone can prosper if they work hard. democrats are much the same, but make some gestures towards welfare. american politics are not broken. it functions exactly as it was designed to do. the default operation of america is the rule of the wealthy for the benefit of the wealthy. this principle began with the constitution, written explicitly to make possible domination of the poor many by the rich few. the '1%' rule is not new. it began with the plantation plutocrats, continued after the civil war in 'the gilded age,' and now is the '1%,' although 1/10 of 1% is more accurate. the usa is not broken, it is a purpose-built plutocracy, functioning as it was meant to do. if you don't like the results of the constitution, you must change it. i recommend democracy, if you are capable of it. but i fear you are not. it needs citizen quality people, and american culture and education does not produce many educated people with a sense of commu ity and justice. on the contrary, there are just too many ignorant 'bubbas,' simple racists and plain old sociopaths too sustain a democracy. that's why a creature like trump is in the oval office- he truly is the essence of america.
