  1. the democratic party is not an agent of democracy. they are not even honest brokers. it's just a political gang. it must have money and votes, and has discovered that money buys votes. it has also learned that losing gracefully to the republicans can pay well. it's not going to be an agent of change. bernie brings hope to people who haven't had a party since johnson tried to expiate his sins with a bit of welfare, and this might get bernie into office. but right now, his plurality of votes in dem primaries is not enough even for nomination, assuming most of the supporters of the other candidates vote, 'anyone but bernie.' vietnam opened my eyes about the nature of my native land, and i started asking people, "why don't we get real democracy?" it turned out, americans are mental slaves, unable to conceive of real change in the system. so it won't change, even if bernie gets in. it needs more than one old man, it needs a change in the national character. not gonna happen.
