chomsky is dead wrong in a system with single seat electorates and plurality wins, vote blue results in 2 right wing parties inevitably.. a bit of game theory: one party is 'welded' to the rich, and so well-funded. the 'other' party cannot mobilize its potential voters, for lack of funds. so the 'others' mimic the richos in all areas of concern to the rich, and campaign as 'moderates,' with only a few and trivial social coins thrown to the poor. result; the 'others are in office as much as the richos, and the poor stop voting, which suits both parties. chomsky may have been a useful voice in linguistics, and deserves respect as a champion of the poor, but he is a lousy political theoretician. voting for lesser evils is what got you an evil government.
