bernie will do very little, and what he does will be overturned as soon as buttigieg gets in, possibly as a republican, but more likely as a centrist democrat. the fatalist acceptance of the current political structure means no substantive change can be made, not even by a bernie. i don't know what you were doing in high school, but clearly it wasn't reading history. fdr had a much more restive nation, and made gestures towards socialist support of the poor- but here you are, in the 'gilded age' mark 2 even so.
there's a reason for that, if you figure it out perhaps you can make progress. wouldn't bet on it- the french have political philosophers, the chinese have revolutionaries, while americans have talk shows, politics as entertainment.

doesn't anyone read the constitution? or american history? without control of house and senate, presidents can do little. bernie will never control the senate, and probably not the house, either. there are a few lefty radicals now, but they still are a minority.
the democratic party is not a party of the left. they are just 'the other wing' of the political profession. fdr, with total control, just threw a few fish to the lower class, but made no attempt to establish democracy. consequently, the rich bought back what is 'their' nation, one politician at a time.
around 1900, the real progressive movement was able to establish some or all of the attributes of democracy in about half the states, this needs doing at the federal level.
but no one says so. it's quite simple - if you want the usa to be run 'for the people' you must establish democracy, so that it will be run 'by the people.'
not impossible, california is 40 million people, 5th largest economy in the world, and a very active democratic constitution. go thou and do likewise.
