when you live in a democracy, you talk about what needs to be done, and how to do it- growing up in such a society forms citizen quality people. it is in the interests of the citizens that all be well-educated.
but the usa is not a democracy, at the federal level, and many, perhaps most of its people are not citizen quality. not a unique situation, as only switzerland is a democracy, close enough.
political discussion in an elective aristocracy is consequently inane- necessarily about people, little different from adolescent chat about sports stars.
and yet it is vitally important that the temporary lords and ladies serve the nation well. the disconnect between this necessity and the reality of depending on politicians to act on the public welfare, when history demonstrates endlessly that they do not, has brought more than half of the people to such contempt of the government as to simply not vote. at the same time, a nation blessed by geography and resources beyond all others is clearly rotting.
bernie is not the answer. but he may be a temporary reprieve, while deeper solutions are sought.
