  1. i read 'decline and fall of the roman empire' when i wuz a young lad, and was amazed at the quality of men who found themselves wearing the purple. crazy, lazy and dim, many of them. and it turns out, elections don't improve the quality at all, at all. now we've got a climate crisis and a choice of biden or trump, and usa seems determined to start a war, somewhere. god help us.
