  1. democrats began as the party of slavery, were the party of jim crow until the 50's, and only became vaguely left wing in the 30's and 40's when the depression and returning ww2 grunts gave them a window of power through dispensing social benefits. this brief and shallow flirtation with the left was gradually erased by buying individual politicians, one at a time. usa was designed to be wholly owned by wealth, a functioning plutocracy. design was very successful.

  2. hedges is respectable, and knowledgeable, and immediately these two charming 'hillies' look like the one-use throw-away talking heads they are. no crime in it, at least they appear to be on the side of the angels, so far as it is in their competence. american political discussion is generally useless, being little connected to reality. hedges has been toiling in the trenches, dodging the occasional bullet or bomb, and reads history. my only complaint with him is that he is not even che guevara, even less mao ze dung. america is better for having this critic, but needs a revolutionary leader.

  3. btw, you shouldn't call hedges a real journalist. more of a martyr/saint with an interest in foreign affairs. the people of usa think the hillies are journalists, they even think the on screen staff at fox are journalists. hedges talks about reality, the others talk about the american bubble/myth. they deserve the label journalist, from numbers, if you think the usa has any connection to democracy. which is not the case.
