americans in general are not much aware of the rest of the world. there is a feeling of 'we're the best, who cares.' which is out of date. many nations have a better standard of living, many more have a more equitable distribution of the national cake. and when it comes to making things and doing things, china is out in front, daylight 2nd.
china is eating america's lunch, because the masters of usa have moved their base of production to china in search of greater profit. putting a tariff wall on china might make sense if those american companies couldn't move, but they can and have already demonstrated that they will.
more importantly, china doesn't really need usa. unlike the usa, they can plan as a nation, and plan for the long term, usa can't. add in the simple size of china and anyone who picks an economic fight is gonna lose.
usa has a long suit: military production and equipment, and well-trained bandits-in-uniform more politely known as special forces. they might be tempted to recover economic domain by threat of war. that can't end well for anyone, so one is tempted to assume they won't. both germany and japan began ww2 with similar stresses in play, and the elite of both countries chose victory or death. the elite of the usa is less brave, their combat aims are piece-meal commercial acts. but the invasion of iraq was miscalculated, just like the invasion of vietnam. there is really no reason to expect sanity from american masters. their greed has become a psychopathology.
