as the roman republic shifted into the imperial mode, augustus changed little in roman daily life. for many years thereafter, the senators would attend the forum and discuss state affairs. the only significant difference was, caesar no longer listened. madison feared that a strong national army would allow some general to seize power, and that is why there was none until ww1 made it necessary, and profitable, and ww2 also saved the nation by going into the munitions business on behalf of the allies.
trump is an unlikely caesar, but usa has been in imperial mode since the korean war, and he inherits a government already debased by assassination at home and abroad, by mass murder for profit, and his personal character matches neatly with the national ethos. don't make fun of trump- he is president, and you are not, and it's not an accident.
