  1. we are dealing with human beings here, so i don't expect perfection, or even justice. i am so very aware of the imperfections in the usa, that i merely content myself by noting that china has lifted more people into a middle class than the entire population of usa. they have filthy air, but recognize it, and are making great efforts to clean it. they put more solar screens in operation every year than the total number usa has, a nation, incidentally that decries climate warming and promotes fossil fuel use. where usa runs new gas and oil pipelines across national parks, china recovers land from desertification. perhaps most impressive is the ' one belt- one road' plan: bigger by far than the marshall plan, it will offer transport through out asia and europe cheaper than air, faster than sea travel. it is likely that widespread prosperity will appear wher it has never been before. whatever else you ascribe to xi jinping, i suggest that you should describe him as a man intent on lifting his nation to the front rank of human society, and doing it with trade, not violence. compared to 'leaders' in the west, he is what the best of us should aim for, they are only what we have been led to endure.
