  1. the system is not broken, it works pretty much as madison wished. i paraphrase what he said: "i have established a society which will be directed by landed gentlemen for awhile [he had no illusions about the continuance of slavery] and by gentlemen of commerce for the ages. " there are several kinds of polity, four were recognized by aristotle that are in use today. three are varieties of oligarchy, the remaining one is democracy. the usa is an elective oligarchy which is indirectly influenced by wealth. it is a functional plutocracy. just as madison designed. the system is not broken, the 'intelligentsia' is blinded by myth and miseducation, and is continually confused when the 'dog' doesn't fly like a 'bird.'
