btw, i read elsewhere that usg has applied to an usa court for permission to stop iranian ships from delivering supplies to venezuela. help me out here, does usa own the oceans of the world? is this incipient piracy with a fig-leaf of simulated respect for law? is there no one with a skerrick of decency in the whole usa?

@scottbc31h22 i have, long ago, and you are right. my 'btw' was chiefly concerned with the rights of iran, and any nation, to oppose the will of the 'great satan.'

pleasant news, if true. but i can't think of any significant precedent for a dominant power to simply declare bankruptcy. rulers generally reach for the sword, in history, on the 'we need money, they got it' principle. there is a lot of fat, in the usa economy, and as long as nuclear war is averted, usa can prune expenses easily. even trump can see that--- who else wants to leave nato? but most of the fat is in military expense, and pruning soldiers is dangerous, 'retiring' generals more so. there is no excuse for usa military proliferation, except the transfer of taxes into share-holders pockets. share-holders are more dangerous than soldiers or generals so there's all kinds of danger in pruning fat in the usa. a dilemma with 2 equally ugly horns. most likely outcome? biden gets in, usa goes to war. let's hope the only victim is venezuela.

@henryrollins9177 people said much the same thing about czechoslovakia, and look how that worked out. usa is a gangster nation and likely to regard venezuela as a profitable low-hanging fruit. the people of usa have been unconcerned about the crushing of the venezuelan economy and presumably are ready for the next step. i can do nothing for venezuela but point out that usa intends to own it. have you got some better plan?
