the whole history of the usa is the struggle of a few rich people to control the not- rich many, without relying greatly on force. madison knew what he was doing in the design of the constitution, and it continues to perform that function.
but it's a different world, and new stresses are going to rupture the constitutional framework of the nation. de-industrialization has created a large group of newly poor people no longer fooled by the democratic party. pursuit of global dominance has created an army aware that it is a tool of capitalist greed, and so not inhibited by any nostalgic loyalty to nation. keeping control of these social elements is increasingly difficult, and has led to desperado tactics, as both parties try to pretend that the relict america of the 1950's is essentially preserved.
trump is the 'desperado' of the right, a person so contemptible that he could only be elected, narrowly, because the newly impoverished americans despised clinton even more, and the hopelessly corrupt democratic party chose her for a candidate without even suspecting they were more despised.
biden will be the 'desperado' of the dems, he is a democrat, which is the only qualification he has, and it is enough- he authenticates the party, they can tell themselves they don't stink, trump was just a random obstruction. if trump beats him, a new party will be born. although, good sense doesn't get much play in usa politics, the horses might return to the burning barn. not sure horses are that stupid, americans, very possible.
'bernie?' he would lead the new party, but he's too old. if he is selected by the dems, unlikely, and wins, possible, he will preside over an unmanageable government, and carry the can of resulting failure.
