  1. well, the usa tried to buy ukraine, and have been quite successful. it doesn't cost much, politicians are cheap. ukraine doesn't like russia very much, lots of bad history there. but putin gets nervous at the prospect of usa rocket bases moving closer to moscow. so he decides to occupy ukraine. could be starting ww3, but he knows the west, usa, is dollar-oriented. they will take-on small or weak nations such as vietnam or iraq, where profit seems assured. russia otoh, is dangerous, and usa doesn't do dangerous, no profit in being dead, and nuclear rockets can kill rich people, too. the vile hypocrisy of the invaders of vietnam and irag and afghanistan, too, crying "shame!" should put a bend in the spine of any usan, but usans have absolutely no acquaintance with a sense of shame. a nation founded to extend slavery, and the near extermination of the native people, can not afford to be acquainted with shame. chomsky, peace be upon that virtuous man, made a list of usa military adventures around the world, more than 100, as i recall, and most of them would be war-crime, if there was a court with the power to arrest usa. the rest were merely shameful. putin fears the usa, with good reason. he doesn't want your stooges for neighbors.
