first, you much catch your democracy. only the swiss have managed that. real democracies have no problem with oligarchs, because the citizen militia is the arbiter of last resort. oligarchies flourish because they pay the professional soldiers. a nation awash with firearms should have no trouble in establishing democracy, but since they are told daily that politician rule is democracy, only better, having guns isn't enough. brains and character also needed, and in short supply.
