  1. you do have a problem, but so far, no one grasped that it all began with the constitution. that is the rock on which american society is built, and it is the foundation of oligarchy, in the control of wealth. the founders had no need for religious control, but their inheritors in the republican party do, so it is used. it is in the interest of most politicians that the electorate be ignorant and frightened of the outside world, religion prospers here too. between them they have made americans into malleable chumps. nothing to be done about it, madison made a nation unresponsive to its people, out of the well-founded fear that democracy would lead to socialism, and the destruction of the rich with taxes. so it's revolution, or decay. decadence seems very likely.

  2. the fatalist acceptance of their government activities, however maleficent, is the fundamental measure of how 'democratic' the usa is. not at all. there is little use in condemning the crimes of politicians, when the character of their victims is supine acceptance.
