in the first place, it wasn't the people that established the constitution. that was the first lie. the federation was created by the consent of the various state congresses, largely controlled by the state grandees, unsurprising since you had to be white, male and prosperous to even vote. one state did offer the proposed constitution through referendum to the people. the rhode island people rejected the constitution. their finest hour.
during the constitutional convention, madison had to be frank in selling his document, and took credit for considering democracy, and rejecting it, because it would lead to the taxes on the rich being spent on the needs of of the poor.
there is no socialism, no democracy, in the foundation of the usa. and damn little since then.
