  1. james madison greatly admired the british monarchy of his day, and modeled his constitution after the british state. as it was a new nation, he used election to office a great deal more than the brits. but he was explicit that his document did not create democracy. it was and remains, an elective monarchy. it's easy to tell, in a democracy, the people rule. in other societies, an elite rules. the american people do not rule. they are not consulted, and frequently activities of state are done in secret. why then, do people insist on using the word 'democracy' in reference to the usa?
