when hyenas catch and eat a wildebeest, are they evil? are you surprised? politicians are crooked, incompetent and self-interested. it is their nature. like hyenas, it is foolish to complain about them. effective response is, to make them extinct by creating a democracy ruled by the electorate. it's not impossible: many state constitutions were changed to democratic ones back in the late 1800's/ early 1900's. it may be the the current american electorate is of lower character, complaint about that would be appropriate, but don't complain about politicians- they are few and you are many, if they rule, the fault is your own.

it's a question of motivation and goals: if the goal is to make the rich richer, it functions well. usa needs a new constitution. can't get it without revolution.

the people of the usa could organize and extract democracy from the politicians. but they don't. cow character will be ruled by hyena character. evolution in action. slavery down the road and approaching fast, and just a way station towards extinction.

yes, in my view, the only important question is political, not economic: to paraphrase aristotle: "who decides?" the usa is not a democracy, it is a purpose-built oligarchy designed to ensure the rule of the rich. no discussion that does not begin with getting democracy is likely to have any effect. people like wolff evade this question, for they have no answer.i believe a sufficiently large citizen action group could lead the usa to democracy. but is there such a group? like, i suspect, professor wolff, i think not. nor even close. humanities weaknesses appear to be fatal. which means that people like wolff are just carrion birds, gathered around the twitching carcass of humanity in the hope of a meal. no shame it it, even vultures have their place in heaven.
