not a tyranny by any means, for tyranny is the rule of a 'strong man' on the nominal will of the poor masses. usa, on the other hand, was designed to ruled by the wealthy elite without much regard for the lower classes. as it still is today. but trump did tap into the social dynamic of tyranny- a large component of his support was the dispossessed ex-workers who had suddenly become 'shirtless ones.' bernie will be a real tyrant, a much-loved champion of the lowers of all descriptions. 'tyrant' became a pejorative word because they are hated by the dispossessed upper classes, who write the books. so we will call bernie a champion, the 'good' word nowadays.

there were a number of common-law decisions that spurred the colonies to independence. it was clear slavery had no future under british law. it's worth remembering that 4 of the first 5 presidents were southern slave masters. their position reflected the relative wealth of north and south. northern grandees were happy to go along, partly as they provided the ships that imported the slaves, and sold their production to europe. and it was handy to write your own tax laws, too.
