of course you don't have democracy. the activity of the nation is not directed by referendum and initiative. voting for people is not democracy, it is aristocracy with civil war evolved into elections. instead of hiring soldiers, the would-be aristocrats offer bribes to the civilians. anyway, madison explained that democracy would lead to the taxes of the rich being spent on the concerns of the poor, which is why his proposed constitution prevented democracy.
