there was a time when we were in africa, when the 'human race' was less than 1000 individuals. a passing virus might have done for all of them. other animals since have probably thought 'we should have done more to blot them out.' now h. sap. is master of the planet and also likely to blot himself out. we acquired some bad habits while expanding from that 1000. greed, arrogance and selfishness paid off and flourished. now we can't escape it.
