there was no democracy in the north, many states didn't even pretend. no land, no vote was common. and the south was economically more important than the north from birth - the 'revolution' was driven by southern plantation owners worried about losing slavery. remember "give me liberty, or give me death?" that was the liberty of white plantation owners to enslave black people. and it paid well, even before the cotton gin.
there is no democracy in the federal government to this day. voting for 'which' master is not democracy, it is oligarchy, more specifically elective aristocracy. since politicians do not prosper unless they support wealth, the aristocrats listen to the plutocrats, and both ignore the cattle.
look around you, do you see rule by the citizens? the word 'democracy literally means, 'rule by the citizens.' if you speak or read greek, you couldn't be so easily fooled.
a nation without rule by referendum and initiative is no kind of democracy, 'democracy' is just a convenient myth in usa. and the people of usa will never enjoy the benefits of citizenship while they are ruled by any elite.
the rich rule now, but the generals are getting restive. join the army, that's the growth industry in usa, that's accessible to poorly educated people. your masters will keep you fed and housed, unlike the rich. they have to. generals have to worry about restive soldiers, and ambitious colonels.
