  1. you haven't got democracy, but pretending does save some effort. madison explained how his constitution would prevent democracy, and why: it would lead to taxes paid by the rich being spent on the poor. it still works. no democracy, poor social services, rotting infrastructure, and an electoral system that resembles kabuki theatre. when you get referendum you can regulate the expenses of administration. when you get initiative you can direct administration. until then, you are just petulant children pretending to be grown-ups.
