"but we vote, ain't that democracy?" no. they vote in russia, they vote in china, they even vote in north korea - by itself, voting means nothing. in a democracy, not only do the people vote, the people choose what to vote for. but you only choose which gang of crooks will steal from you, tweedledum, or tweedledumber. when a biden runs against a trump, your nation was presented with a choice of senile crook or dimwitted crook, which is a precise demonstration of the value of voting, in an elective oligarchy. have you no feeling of shame? not only are you being diddled at regular intervals, they don't even bother to pretend anymore, that elections mean something, and you just take it.... that's the important thing about democracy, as a citizen you direct the nation, in concert with others. this creates a 'citizenry' of people chock-ful of self-respect and self-confidence. it was no coincidence that when hitler invited the swiss to give up and save lives, in view of the gross difference in numbers, and being surrounded by axis powers, the swiss held a referendum [democracy in action] and answered: "no." and they made it stick because they paid the cost of democracy, every healthy man was a soldier, and the national sport was field shooting. democracy makes a higher quality person. which is why usa is following in the same old historical path, commonly summarized as 'down the gurgler.'
