  1. i often wonder why american 'progressives' don't demand democracy. they used to, back when progressives really wanted progress. that's how california came to have a constitution with referendum, initiative and recall. many other states also came to have some or all of these functions of democracy. but now, 'progressives' just want to be in office. many mean well, determined to throw a fish or two at the little peepul, while holding firmly to the fishing pole. and do the people despair of actual citizenship, clinging merely to a hope of an occasional thrown fish? what a degenerate society, high and low!
