  2. i initially thought there was little to the russia connection, beyond possible commercial corruption. trump wanted a tower in moscow, and only got serious about even being a candidate when the republican competition was so pathetic. so he became a [anti-] politician while still tangled up in commercial activities. since he is crooked by habit and inclination, they are too. ultimately, this may bite him on the bum. but the important news about trump is, remains, and shows no sign of getting better: usa political system is hopelessly ineffective, obsolete, and has created a political class reminiscent of louis 16. confronted with a challenge from a resurgent china, hard to see any thing but continuing failure for usa. that's fine with me, except- they might start a war, or they might get in bed with indian nationalists and then start a war. that would pass for high diplomacy among the american elite. reagan and dubya were bad enough, now trump. can't anyone in usa see they have zero chance against china with this level of management?

  3. many americans simply do not grasp the implications of living in a society that is not a democracy. they are full of opinions about 'what should be done,' but have nothing to say about how to do it. they can't 'do' anything. because usa is not a democracy, there is no citizen initiative power. they must hope the 'ennobled' real citizens in office will do the right thing. it never happens. the interests of the elite, with power, are different from the great mass of chumps, without. so political discussion tends to be empty, wishful nonsense.
