if this is a surprise to you, arise sleeping beauty!
the usa is not a democracy.
it is owned by the rich.
it is managed by an elective oligarchy , a duopoly known as democratic party and republican party. neither has any ideology beyond lust for power. they differ only in their origin and history, both have courted different demographics of the electorate because of this history, but both must serve money due to the structure of the state.
socialism is anathema to the rich, and they fear democracy because it might lead to socialism. so their political agents fear it too.
bernie was infected with socialist ideas as a young man, foreign influence, no doubt. he has survived and flourished by sticking to simple material goals that the ordinary voter wants. it may lead him to the democratic nomination, it might lead him to the oval office.
but one man can make little difference without cooperation from house and senate. is he likely to get it?
so don't get your hopes up- democracy and socialism is simply too good for a nation of morlocks. more than half the nation are consumed with fear and loathing of socialism, and the politicians will have plenty of support in barricading bernie in his office.
he's not there yet, maybe 5-1 against. biden plus buttigieg will probably be the choice, and a good thing. prevents civil war. and besides- they might shoot bernie.
