selective quotes of trump create the feeling that he is smarter than his generals. they are losers, to some extent. but they didn't lose alone, political considerations limited their success. nowadays, america's 'wars' are not wars, they are optional wars, or in antique language: banditry in uniform.
trump appears genuinely dim, but so did dubya. his war was a real disaster, but at least usa remains in possession of iraq.
the management selection process of the usa is hopelessly obsolete, that's why it's decaying. no one in the usa seems to understand this, and that's why it's decaying also. somewhat like the last days of the austro-hungarian empire, let us hope the collapse is equally fast and smooth.

in reality, your problem is a guy named james madison. he wrote the constitution, designed to ensure the rich ruled, and it has worked very well indeed, to that purpose. trump has two assets, enough in 2016: member of the richman's club, always useful, nearly necessary, and not a politician, uniquely useful, just this one time. the reason for that: professional politicians have run the usa so badly that a lot of people figured 'anyone but more of them.'

nowadays, usa soldiers are mercenaries, paid to take resources and markets with gun fire. considering the pay you get and the lively possibility of death or horrible crippling and disfigurement, you can see trump's viewpoint, regarding losers and chumps. the truth is, if you are not born the son of a billionaire, in usa you are a loser, and if you play by the rules, you are a sucker.
do not understand why people don't want democracy. imagine the joy of a citizen initiative, in compelling everyone to publish their financial activity, trumps would become extinct!

putin has been restrained and selective in managing this war. his soldiers, less so. he didn't want to be tsar of ukraine, just wanted a buffer between him and nato. usa/nato says 'we go where we want.'
the problem for putin is, hurting ukraine causes no pain in the dc beltway. indeed, usa can offload munitions indefinitely, may even make a profit.
so someday soon, vlad has to quit kicking the puppet. perhaps he could pour arms into yemen, or venezuela. maybe cuba regrets not getting the missiles still. somewhere in there usa may back off. or we move on to general war.
in short, vlad has options, and very possibly he has a training program in mind, to bring some humility to the usa.

your political system is pathetic. a creature like trump should never get near power. how did it happen? not an act of god, not even a con game--- lying is part of the system. the system chugged away and here you are. not clear the alternative would be any better, and the dnc came up with an alzheimer's hack for the next one. how can he lose, right. clinton would have said the same, but.
the constitution is your fundamental problem, it generates the ignorant people, the selfish richos, the venal pollies. fixing your society would be easy, for angels, no others need apply. perhaps if you advertise? "help wanted, angelic powers required?"

the government of the usa was modeled on that of georgian britain, as closely as possible. madison thought that government was the best that humanity could devise. but he also thought that the rich should rule the usa, as the aristocracy ruled britain, so perhaps his goals and methods might not be publicly acceptable nowadays. but the rich rule still, in practice, and in private they presumably think king george 4 got it right.
mattis can tell a sinking ship as well as anyone, no credit to him in leaving it. trump's fast-draw resolution of the syrian morass was out of step with the 'deep-state' government, who never saw a war they didn't want to visibly win, and seldom one they didn't want to be in. partly of course, because they were not actually in it. but the important point here, is that serious questions are being decided by one individual, hopelessly incompetent, of contemptible character and no experience.
when will americans start to ask, 'maybe we need a new constitution?' because trump is there lawfully, and is obeyed as he should be. there has to be something wrong with the law, don't you agree? 'the law' is the constitution.

trump is fit to be president, the standards are low. truman, reagan and dubya did more damage than trump has, so far- and getting out of syria is probably the right call.
america's problem is not trump. the constitution is obsolete, and the resulting political guild so inbred and self-satisfied that good national management is impossible. this is one of the largest factors in the decline of the american empire. another factor is the invitation of that incompetent american management to 'communist' china, to join the capitalist world trade society. it turns out the chinese are better at capitalism, presumably due to their political system.
trump is not only fit, he is symptomatic of a degenerating capitalist society: predatory, no longer creative, corrupt in business and private life. he is more american than abe lincoln. calling him 'unfit' is mere embarrassment at seeing the american ethos so nakedly displayed. trump will be brought down, and likely replaced by someone who will declare war on iran, and thus prove himself 'fit' to rule the crumbling empire.
